Who Are We?
Faith United Church of Christ (UCC) is a Christian congregation
of women and men, young and old, from all walks of life, committed to
living and sharing the Good News of God's love for the world in Jesus
Christ. That message, in a nutshell, is Welcome! We're glad you're here!
No matter who you are, no matter where you've come from, no
matter where you're headed, if your search for meaning in your life,
service in your community, and peace in our world has led you to the
life of the Spirit, you will find a home at Faith.
What Are We?
Historic
Faith is a congregation of the United Church of Christ,
descendants of the New England Puritans and the Evangelical and
Reformed churches in Europe. As a congregation, we were formed in 1957,
the same year as the United Church of Christ. We were also the first
religious organization in the city of Richmond Heights.
Centered
Worship is at the center of our life. Our services draw on the
rich tradition of our UCC heritage and the wider Christian church to
make our worship meaningful, devotional and joyous.
We AFFIRM the universal and unbounded love of God made known to us in
the life and teachings, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and we
recognize that this love shows no partiality. Rejoicing in the diverse
gifts that each person brings to the life of the Church, we FURTHER
AFFIRM that membership and full participation in this congregation is
OPEN to all who wish to dwell in the Spirit of life that is in Christ Jesus, regardless of age, sexual orientation, race, gender identity,
marital, economic, mental or physical status.
A Safe Space
Faith UCC is committed to creating and maintaining a worship and work community in which members, friends, staff, and volunteers can worship and work together in an atmosphere free of all forms of discrimination, harassment, exploitation, or intimidation.
Theologically Inclusive
We take delight in the diversity of God's wondrous creation,
including the variety of paths by which people seek God and the many
ways in which they live out their faith journeys. That diversity is
reflected in the rich spectrum of theological views found in our
congregation.
Intentional
Faith faces the realities of our time and place without fear or
prejudice, and we seek to use all our gifts of mind, body, and spirit
in the service of the gospel.
Informed
A wide variety of educational opportunities for youth and adults
keeps us up-to-date on issues confronting people of faith near at hand
and around the world.
Engaged
Faith is a church that reaches out to its neighbors in many ways:
through Loaves and Fishes, a hot meal program served in downtown
Cleveland; through the food bank of St. James Lutheran Church in East
Cleveland; through the Faith Preschool, which has served the families
of the Hillcrest area for over thirty years; and through many local and
international mission programs administered by the United Church of
Christ.
Ecumenical
We are part of the universal church of Jesus Christ, and as
members of that vast spiritual family, we embrace our sisters and
brothers of all communions, and work with them in every effort to
advance the ministry of reconciliation.
