Handbell Workshop

posted Feb 5, 2012 3:09 PM by James Christensen   [ updated Feb 5, 2012 3:30 PM ]

Four-in-hand is a valuable skill for all levels of bell-ringers. There are six different methods for ringing multiple bells in one hand. At this workshop you will learn each of them, and with maximum musical results. In addition, tips on avoiding injury, developing a safe and melodic ringing stroke, and managing many bells will be
presented.

See the attached flyer for additional details, or ask Chris Wilkinson, Leslie Huston or Mary Ober.

Here's one of the 21 tracks. This one was recorded at St. John's Cathedral, Cleveland, on May 20, 2010, as part of WCLV-FM's Jubilation! choir festival:

Anthem Dedications

posted Sep 27, 2010 9:59 AM by James Christensen

Your dedications of anthems for inclusion in our worship services makes all the difference in Faith's music program, since the line in the church budget for music purchases has not changed from the $100/year of 2003, when I came here. All voice choir anthems through Advent are now dedicated, leaving only the Christmas Eve music; there are three bell anthems yet available, as well-- two prior to Christmas, and one for the candlelight service. Please speak with Mary Ober for details.

Future Plans

posted Aug 9, 2010 10:26 AM by James Christensen

I hope to offer the Music Reading workshop, &/or follow-up sessions, later in the year... four consecutive Mondays, sometime, would be good.  The workshops are intended to teach or refresh music-reading skills, using a few exercises and our hymnal.  I would like Faith's people to feel comfortable joining in any of our music activities-- choir, bells… AND, there will be new ways to participate in singing and ringing as our church year gets underway.

  • "Pick-up" bell-ringing with the last hymn every Sunday (bells will be set up weekly; volunteer ringers can play along with the organ and congregation)
  • Development of possibly-ongoing smaller vocal AND instrumental ensembles, involving teens through adults
  • New outreach opportunities, utilizing musical groups at all age levels…
  • Occasions for singing (or ringing) with other church choirs…

I welcome your ideas, and your participation!

Peace ~ Mary Ober, Music Director
