Lent at Faith

posted Feb 11, 2012 2:05 PM by James Christensen

Bread of Life is Faith's Lenten Series on five Wednesdays -- February 29th, March 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th.  A light dinner will be served from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., with the program from 6:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Free childcare is available.  Join us as we read Bread of Life, a Lenten study by local author, Barbara Essex. The book focuses on the Gospel of John and helps us
explore the various ways Jesus referred to himself -- Bread of Life, Light of the World, Door for the Sheep, The Good Shepherd, Resurrection and Life, and The Way, the Truth, and the Life. It helps us answer the question: Who do you say I am? Cost of the book is $5.00.  Scholarships are available. Meet the author, Barbara Essex, at our first session on February 29th.
Sign up on the bulletin board.

Prayer in the Park II

posted Apr 17, 2011 3:12 PM by James Christensen   [ updated Jun 21, 2011 8:58 AM ]

NOTE: Due to inclement weather, the Prayer in the Park Series will continue for a few weeks beyond the schedule listed below. Topics yet to be discussed include humans and their place in creation, the Christian vision of the city, and the life cycle and the divine will. All are welcome at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Welsh Woods Picnic Area of the Euclid Creek Reservation.
Pilgrimages In a Less-Built World: The pastor invites everyone who likes to be outdoors, to study outdoors, to eat outdoors, to pray outdoors, and to walk outdoors to join him for a series of six pilgrimages in the park to read, discuss, pray, and explore God's natural world and our relationship to it. We will gather at 5:30PM on the following Tuesdays at the Welsh Woods Picnic Area of the Euclid Creek Reservation in South Euclid (in case of rain, gather under the shelter) to read the Bible and various writers on creation; pray and meditate for and about creation; have a two- to three-mile walk; and enjoy fellowship and a bag supper. Our sessions will close by 8:00 PM. If you would like to integrate more of creation theology -- and physical exercise -- into your spiritual life, bring your Bible, supper (with plenty of water), and comfortable walking clothes (don't forget a hat or sunscreen), and be prepared to learn more about and to celebrate God's wondrous gift of creation.
Please speak with the pastor if you have any questions or would like more information.

Bread for the World

posted Mar 12, 2011 1:39 PM by James Christensen   [ updated May 11, 2011 7:20 AM ]

Following Worship on Sunday, April 10, members and friends of Faith Church participated in the 2011 Bread for the World Offering of LettersWe wrote personal letters to our members of Congress, advocating reforms in U.S. foreign assistance to make it more effective in reducing global poverty.
More effective foreign assistance will make a big difference for hungry people in Haiti, Africa, and other parts of the world, enabling them to become more self-sufficient and to create a better future for their families.
Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation's decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad. God's grace in Jesus Christ moves us to help our neighbors, whether they live in the next house, the next state or the next continent. By changing policies and conditions that allow hunger and poverty to persist, we provide help and opportunity far beyond the communities where we live.

posted Oct 13, 2010 5:42 AM by James Christensen

Faith UCC now has wireless Internet connectivity. This is already in use as a resource by groups holding meetings in the church, and will be used later this Fall for an experimental distance learning hookup in the Lay School of the Church of the UCC's Western Reserve association.
Thanks to Scott Dorey, who donated a wireless router, and Lane Galey, who installed it!
